About Max

Originally from Poole, Max relocated back to England in 2010. He started out his career at a provincial saleroom, where he helped successfully to run their antiques and interiors auctions to include cataloging and running sales in Poole Pottery and Moorcroft. After almost 5 years with the firm, Max decided to take some time out to enjoy one of his main interests, travelling. He travelled throughout India and the majority of South East Asia, to include Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore and Malaysia, where he learned about different cultures and explored Temples and World Heritage Sites.

Upon his return from travelling in 2017, Max joined one of the leading auction houses in the South, where he was appointed as Auctioneer and Valuer and to head up the Silver department. During his time with the firm, he developed the successful Art & Design department from scratch and went-onto drive the departments to sales figures in excess of £1.5 million. During his career, he has handled and successfully dealt with many private and important collections. Max's discoveries over the years have been well-documented in the press, including a pair of "Witch" mirrors by Parisienne designer and decorative artist Line Vautrin (1913-97). These went onto achieve £30,000 (inc Buyers' premium @ 25%) at auction. He also went onto discover a historically important Poole Pottery vase, designed by John Adams and decorated in the "Bush Velt" pattern. The vase, which stood over 2ft high, is understood to be one of the larger pieces produced by the factory and went onto achieve £9,750 (inc Buyers' premium @ 25%) at auction.

After an opening in the market, Max went onto become an Antiques Dealer and opened his own independent Antiques and Consultancy business. Based in Poole, Dorset, he travels widely to advise clients on sales and valuation services throughout the UK and Europe. Max can undertake professional written valuations for the purposes of Probate and Insurance.  His opinion and experience within the Antiques sector is well received and valued. He is a member of many societies within the industry, including The Silver Society. In 2019, Max was made a Patron of the Poole Pottery Collectors' Club due to his significant contribution of discoveries and sales in Poole Pottery. Max is also bilingual with fluent Spanish.

In 2021, Max was made a Fellow of Royal Society of Arts (FRSA)
